Favourites of the Week #20

Sunday, 9 November 2014

So, way back in the day I did a little series of posts titled "Favourites of the Week" - somewhere along the line, those posts fell to the wayside! Today, however, I decided to bring it back! Hope you enjoy!

Track of the Week
Blank Space - Taylor Swift

Ahhh Blank Space. If this song is not single at some point I will be so surprised - it is amazing! I won't spend too much time discussing it right now because the next favourite is connected...

Album of the Week
Taylor Swift - 1989

I got this album the day it came out and I am absolutely addicted! Every single track is incredible. Favourites are Blank Space, Wildest Dreams, Out of the Woods, This Love and Style, but the whole thing is just amazing. I made a video ranking the tracks, so if you are a Taylor fan and fancy checking it out, here it is!

TV Show of the Week
The Office (US)

This week I have watched pretty much all of season five of The Office Netflix binge-watching style! Every time I get home from work and want to just relax with something easy to watch, this is what I'm going for. I'm also loving Season 4 of Once Upon a Time (have I ever mentioned that I like that show?!) and Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries, the boxset of which I am making my way through at the moment. It, however, is an entirely different sort of genre - much more dramatic! It's incredible, but when I just want a laugh and a distraction at the end of the day, The Office is perfect. Michael Scott will never fail to make me laugh and Jim Halpert will never fail to make me want to marry him.

Film of the Week
Gone Girl

Emma and I went to see Gone Girl a few weeks ago now, but as it was the last new film I saw, I thought I'd include it. I actually really enjoyed the film, but honestly? For me the book was better. There are reasons why, which I won't discuss on here to avoid spoilers, but I'm going to try to rope Emma into filming a video with me about it. I will say though that had you not read the book, I think the film would have been absolutely amazing! Bravo to the entire cast, who I thought did a really good job with it.

Beauty Product of the Week
Makeup Revolution "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" Eyeshadow Palette

Guys. THIS PALETTE. There are no words for how I feel about this palette, it's just so, so good. The colours are beautiful, the pigmentation is insane, they last all day, they blend nicely and the entire palette is just £6. There is little else for me to say on the matter other than put this on your Christmas list! Or next payday list ;)

Book of the Week
Looking for Alaska - John Green

After finishing Gone Girl a couple of weeks ago, I haven't actually properly got into anything else yet, but I have started John Green's "Looking for Alaska". It has definitely impressed me so far, in the first chapter I've read, but I need a bit more time to actually get into it. This week on my commute to and from work I'll take the time to read it, rather than listed to Taylor Swift's album on repeat and create dramatic music videos in my head!

YouTuber of the Week
Giovannasworld

My favourite celebrity couple (yes, that's right, I have a favourite celebrity couple) are Kristen Bell and Dax Shephard, but they are now very closely followed by Tom and Gi Fletcher. I've been watching Giovanna's vlogs for the past few weeks now, and I just absolutely love her! I haven't actually read any of her books yet, but I think I'll download them on to my kindle and give them a go, because I just think she seems like the nicest person. Her enthusiasm is infectious, and any time I see a new "Coffee with Gi" video pop up in my subscription box I am a happy girl!

Website of the Week
Bored Panda

Bored Panda makes me happy. I love looking a pretty photographs, and if there is a place on the internet that you can find beautiful images, Bored Panda is it. If I'm lacking inspiration I love to hop on to Bored Panda and have a look through the lovely pictures and it always cheers me up!

Style Icon of the Week
Fleur East

source

Sounds like a random choice, but from the very earliest auditions of this year's X-Factor I have had the hugest girl crush on Fleur East - she is just beautiful, and seems like a nice person. She's also a brilliant performer. Anyway, every week I just think she looks stunning, and obviously she has stylists on there now, but right from the word go I always thought she looked really cool!

So that's it for this week! What have some of your favourite things been lately? Let me know in the comments! :)

Thanks for reading!

Soundtrack to my Week #1

Wednesday, 5 February 2014

Hi all! Thought I'd do a quick post and share the songs I've been obsessing over (and that is always the word that comes to mind when it comes to me and music!) this week!

Birdy - Wings

I heard this on the trailer for A New York Winter's Tale and instantly loved it.

The Naked and Famous - Spank

An oldie but a goody. I don't think I'll ever get bored of this song.

Shakira - Can't Remember to Forget You (feat. Rihanna)

My girl crush on Shakira is well and truly re-established. This song is also ridiculously catchy and a definite mood lifter when it's still dark and I'm sitting on the bus on my way to uni!

Macy Kate - Team (Lorde cover)

Loving this cover, I really like Macy Kate (and anything that Kurt Schneider has had anything to do with).

Embrace - Refugees

I heard this one on the radio in work today and loved it - so this is a last minute entry ;)

What music have you had on repeat this week?

Thanks for reading! :)

Favourites of the Week #19

Sunday, 3 November 2013

It's time for another weekly favourites - where are the weeks going?! Speaking of which, apologies for the fact I missed a post on Wednesday - the past couple of weeks have been hectic and the next few are going to be the same, but I'll be sure to get two posts up every week from now on! I've also missed out three of my regular categories here (blogger, film and book of the week) because I haven't had time for any of them - unless you count Strategic Management as book of the week.. which trust me, I wouldn't!!! Anyway, I'll stop rambling on and get on with the post!

Track of the Week
Madilyn Bailey - Berzerk (Eminem cover)

I'm sure you'll have heard me mention this girl before, but I'm a huge fan of Madilyn Bailey - she has some absolutely amazing covers on youtube, and is part of the whole Jake Coco/Corey Gray/Savannah Outen crew. Love this cover of Eminem's track Berzerk, I really like how she puts her own spin on everything she covers and isn't scared to cover any genre!

Album of the Week
Bastille - Bad Blood

I love Bastille so very much and was so gutted to miss the gig this week! This is exactly my type of music at the moment - if you haven't given it a listen, I highly recommend checking them out!

TV Show of the Week
The Vampire Diaries Season 5

Just caught the first episode of TVD Season 5 on ITV Player the other night - it was amazing!! I honestly can't get enough of this show, and I wish people who don't watch it would give it more credit. It's so clever and intense, and you the characters really get under your skin. Love that Delena (yep, that's right, I'm a ''Delena'' shipper) are getting a chance this season (hiya Ian Somerhalder ;))

Beauty Product of the Week
Lanolips Banana Balm

After seeing Fleur de Force review this last week I really wanted to try it for myself. I ordered it online and have to say, I'm loving it so far. I instagrammed a photo of it saying just that and fangirled just a little bit when Fleur favourited my tweet. That's a bit sad, isn't it!!

YouTuber of the Week
Leena - Just Kiss My Frog

I've mentioned Leena before, but I just love her videos so much. I really wish I could be as honest as she is in her videos - I get ideas for videos I want to make and then chicken out of doing it, whereas she just goes for it! She uploaded this philosophical video about what love actually is last week and it was brilliant! She makes a lot of videos talking about feminism in a really diplomatic way, in addition to book reviews, university advice and a huge catelouge of other interesting topics!

Website of the Week
Pinterest

I've been spending lots of time on Pinterest for work purposes the past couple of weeks, and I forgot how much I love it. You could literally spend hours on end just browsing through the beautiful pictures. My friend Laura from The Likely Lady has some amazing boards on there!

source

Style Icon of the Week
Nicole Scherzinger

I'm a fan of Nicole Scherzinger, I have to say. Some of the stuff she comes away with on X-Factor is absolutely hilarious, and she always looks perfect. To the point that you sort of want to hate her, but you just can't! She looks so effortlessly put together in this black jumpsuit and statement shades (I can't get sunglasses to work for me, my face is too small I think). 10/10 Miss Scherzinger.

Favourites of the Week #18

Sunday, 20 October 2013

It's been a while but I decided it was time to do another weekly favourites!

Track of the Week
Bring me the Night - Sam Tsui and Kina Grannis

You know me - I love a bit of romantic, cheesy music and I love my YouTube artists, so what better combination than this adorable song from Sam Tsui and Kina Grannis! This song made me smile the first time I heard it and I put it on my iPod right away, I've have listened to it a ridiculous number of times since!

Album of the Week
One Republic - Native

This album came out in March of this year but for some strange reason (despite being a One Republic fan) I only downloaded it a couple of weeks ago - it is amazing! Standout tracks for me are If I lose Myself and I Lived (linked below) but the whole album is lovely.

TV Show of the Week
Friends

I've been rewatching season 6 of Friends (oh how I miss it from E4!) and will never, ever tire of how good it is. My friend Lynne recently did a ''Top 5 Episodes of Friends'' post and I'm really tempted to do my own version!

Film of the Week
The Hunger Games

In preparation for the release of Catching Fire next month I rewatched The Hunger Games the other day. I know some fans of the book weren't keen on the film version, but speaking as a huge fan of the book series, I loved it! I cannot wait for the next instalment :)

Beauty Product of the Week
Bourjois Effet 3D Lipgloss in Corail Idylliic

I really, really love this lipgloss - I've raved about the range before, they are super moisturising, not too sticky and give a lovely wash of colour to the lips, but this shade in particular is gorgeous. I picked it up in Boots last week because they had a couple of pounds off it in some sort of offer, and I'm so glad I did!

Book of the Week
Snow White Must Die by Nele Neuhaus

Much to my shame, I'm still on the same book I was reading in my last weekly favourites, which was ages ago! This book really is good, but I've been so snowed under with uni work that I just haven't had enough time to get through it - when I do finish it though I reckon I'll do a proper review because I really like the way it's written, and the story is great!

YouTuber of the Week
Angie - Goldiestarling

As it's almost Halloween I couldn't not include Angie as my YouTuber of the week. Her Halloween makeup tutorials are absolutely incredible, she's such a talented makeup artist and I love her videos! Check out some of her best looks (up till last year) in the video below! This year she's done a lot of amazing special effects makeup on her channel, so definitely go and have a look at her recent videos too!

Website of the Week
YouTube

This week I've been obsessing, once again, over some of my favourite ''comedy'' youtube channels like BadLipReading, Bart Baker and ScreenJunkies. If you're feeling a bit fed up and want to watch something entertaining but can't be bothered with a full length comedy tv show or film, get yourself over to some of these channels and you're guaranteed to be laughing within minutes!

Style Icon of the Week
Zooey Deschanel

source

I absolutely adore Zooey Deschanel. Not only is she my style icon of the week, but she's just my ''overall nice person'' of the week. Her website Hello Giggles is one of my favourite websites, and in this interview with Marie Claire she talks openly about her determination to help teenage girls by tackling the issue of bullying in her work on the website. I also love New Girl more than I can say. She's an all round good egg this one. And beautiful too.

What have some of your favourite things been this week? Let me know in the comments! :)

Thanks for reading!

Favourites of the Week #17

Sunday, 15 September 2013

It's Sunday again and I thought I'd do another weekly favourites!

Track of the Week
Bastille - We Can't Stop (Radio One Live Lounge cover)

I am not exactly what you would call a Miley fan - the less said about that in this post, the better I think. Anyway, when I saw that one of my current favourite bands covered her song ''We Can't Stop'' last week I had to have a listen, and I have had it on repeat ever since. Love the cheeky little reference to her relationship with her dad with the wee bit of Achy Breaky Heart they included!

Album of the Week
Ellie Goulding - Halcyon

I've had this album for ages and it's appeared here before, but I keep finding myself putting it on when I'm in the car, or out with my iPod on. I just love the variety of sounds on it from proper dance anthems to really chilled out tracks.

TV Show of the Week
The Vampire Diaries

I'm currently devouring season four of The Vampire Diaries, and whoever it was who told me this season wasn't as good as the previous ones lied! It's just as good, just as intense and with just as many twists and turns. I just filmed a The Vampire Diaries tag for my YouTube channel, so I'll link the video here once it's uploaded!

Film of the Week
About Time

Emma and I went to see About Time this week and absolutely loved it. We both cried bucketloads, so be sure to take some tissues with you if you're going to see it - I cried into my scarf because I neglected to do so! Richard Curtis has really outdone himself with this one. Bill Nighy and Rachel McAdams are both brilliant as always, and I thought Domhnall Gleeson was fantastic in the lead role. This is a nice, philosophical sort of film and while it's romantic, I wouldn't really say romance is the main theme. It's very much about family, making the most of the time you have with them and living each day to the full - it really gets you thinking!

Beauty Product of the Week
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

A product everyone knows about and I have repurchased I don't know how many times, I've been very grateful for my Lasting Perfection Concealer this week since my skin hasn't quite been blemish free - it's a life saver for a bad skin day!

Book of the Week
Snow White Must Die by Nele Neuhaus

I read the back of this book in WHSmith a couple of weeks ago and was instantly intrigued. When I looked it up on my kindle and saw that it was under £3 (I think it was about £2.65) I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. I'm not too far through it yet but it's really good so far, quietly building suspense and giving us access to quite a few characters.

YouTuber of the Week
Nikki Phillippi

I really like Nikki's themed months on her YouTube channel, and think her Change it up Spetember theme is a great idea. It's really easy to get stuck in a rut, and deliberately challenging yourself to try new things or make a change in your life whether it's as big as moving house or going back to univerity - the latter of which I am on doing Thursday, ahhhh! - or as small as changing your regular lipstick colour, making changes can make a big difference to your life.

Website of the Week
Itison

I get daily emails from Itison but rarely bother to spend any time checking out the deals - this week however, I've found a couple of amazing offers and will definitely make the time to read these emails more thoroughly in future!

Style Icon of the Week
Dianna Agron

source

Okay, so I'm cheating a wee bit here, but this shoot actress Dianna Agron did for US Beauty website Byrdie is so stunning I couldn't ignore it. This is more of a makeup icon than style, but I love the colours used in this shoot so much that I'm letting that slide. Check out the full shoot here at http://www.byrdie.com/the-dark-side-of-dianna-agron/

Favourites of the Week #16

Monday, 19 August 2013

I'm back with another weekly favourites - there are some really good ones this week, so be sure to check them out!!

Track of the Week
Katy Perry - Roar

I'm addicted to Katy Perry's new single 'Roar'. I've been listening to it all week to give myself a wee boost - it sounds silly but trying to focus on empowering, positive song lyrics sometimes has a real effect on me. It's like reading uplifting quotes - something small and seemingly insignificant but it can totally alter your mood.

Album of the Week
Imagine Dragons - Night Visions

Still devouring the Imagine Dragons album on a daily basis this week, I love love love it. My favourite track at the moment is Demons, but it changes constantly! There is such a mix of sounds on this album, with tracks resembling a whole array of bands I love, from The Killers to Safetysuit and The Naked and Famous.

TV Show of the Week
Person of Interest

I'm about half way through season two of Person of Interest now and I'm still really enjoying it. Michael Emerson is such a good actor, he was incredible in Lost and he's great in this too. I still wonder when we're going to really learn more about our two heroes, there are an awful lot of unanswered questions at this stage, but I'm eager to know more.

Film of the Week
Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa

My friend Emmeline and I went to see the Alan Partirdge film this weekend and it was absolutely brilliant! In all honesty, I haven't watched an awful lot of Alan Patridge in the past. I've seen lots of wee bits and pieces but it isn't something that I've sat down and made an effort to properly watch, but the film was hilarious, there were moments I literally couldn't stop laughing.

Beauty Product of the Week
Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer

I love this primer, it's so affordable and it makes my makeup last all day - what more could you want?!

Book of the Week
The Secret Island by Enid Blyton

As part of my 101 Things in 1001 Days post, I included ''reread The Secret Island'', and I've started doing just that. As my favourite childhood book of all time this isn't too difficult, and I'm loving revisiting it :)

YouTuber of the Week
Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup

I've always liked Anna's channel, but I've really enjoyed watching some of her videos this week. I watched her second Makeup Menu video last night and there was something really soothing about it - she is so calm and natural in front of the camera and her videos have a real consistency, so you feel like you can really trust her judgement.

Website of the Week
Mollie and Fred

I've spent ages on this website this week looking at all the pretty, quirky little things! It started off as a search for a birthday present for Emma but it has ended up with me spending ages perusing cute things for myself! I discovered Mollie and Fred when I was doing some research for work, and I'm so glad I did - if you are a sucker for a pretty mug or photo frame, or you can't get enough quirky stationary this is a site you will love (and spend money on, so stay away till pay day!!).

Style Icon of the Week
Vanessa White

source

I do love an aztec print top and think this one looks great on Vanessa from the Saturdays. I wouldn't be brave enough to wear the teeny tiny shorts (my legs are very, very rarely on display - thick black tights are my best friend ;)) but she looks gorgeous. I also love her makeup here - she always suits a bright lip.

What have some of your favourite things been this week? Let me know in the comments! :)

Favourites of the Week #15

Sunday, 11 August 2013

Another week, another weekly favourites. Sorry this feature has become sort of intermittent, I'm going to try and get it back on track and do one every Sunday! So, without further ado, here are some of the things I've been loving this week :)

Track of the Week
Fifth Harmony - Miss Movin' On

Never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I've actually really been enjoying Fifth Harmony's debut single. The girl band was formed in the first series of the XFactor USA which I gave up on watching after a handful of episodes, but this first single is quite catchy. It's nothing new - very typical girl band, sort of girl power pop song, but I have found myself dancing around to it this week.

Album of the Week
Imagine Dragons - Night Visions

I'm so addicted to the Imagine Dragons album, it's so good! I've loved Radioactive since it came out, and have wanted to get my hands on the album for weeks. My lovely bestie Emma bought me it as a wee cheer up present this week, which was very nice of her, and it's as good as I hoped it would be!

TV Show of the Week
New Girl

Finished New Girl Season 1 this week and I loved it so much! I won't go on and on about it as I've talked about it plenty times before, but the chemistry between all of the actors is insane, and I just can't get enough of the characters. A stand out episode from season 1 had to be The Landlord - Nick and Jess are always hilarious together but this one had tears literally rolling down my face from laughing so hard.

Film of the Week
Safe Haven

Speaking of tears running down my face, I finished watching Safe Haven for the first time last night and oh my, it had me bawling my eyes out. I know Nicholas Sparks and Nicholas Sparks-esque films aren't for everyone but I love The Notebook, and thoroughly enjoyed Safe Haven too. I'm a big fan of Josh Duhamel, and because I hadn't read the book I had no idea what I was letting myself in for with the story of this film - it's a tear jerker!

Beauty Product of the Week
Bourjois Bronzing Primer

Loving this for actually giving me some colour in my face, I'm so pale and have looked even pastier while I haven't been feeling too well, so this has been a life saver.

Book of the Week
How to Leave Twitter by Grace Dent

This book is hilarious! I'm only about a quarter of the way through it at the moment, but it's so entertaining. The opening pages about how people usually end up setting up a twitter account and how hopeless you inevitably are to begin with are brilliant because it is exactly what I was like when I started out on twitter!

YouTuber of the Week
Louise - Sprinkle of Glitter

She often features as my favourite youtuber, but I really do love her. Have been enjoying her vlogs from Vidcon (why was I not there?!!) and the fact that she made a collab video with Grace Helbig, my other favourite YouTuber, this week meant she couldn't not be my YouTuber of the Week.

Blog of the Week
Iona from Iona Blog

My pal Iona has given her blog a wee revamp this week with the help of the very talented Gillian, who is responsible for my blog design too!! The little bumble bee in her blog header is certainly apt, because she is a busy bee at the moment with two jobs on the go, but she still finds time to update her little corner of the internet with all sorts of posts - in her most recent update, she goes through her perfect 48 Hour Fringe, as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is in full swing! Be sure to go and check her out.

Website of the Week
Forty Days of Dating

Oh my, I have been addicted to this website this week! If you haven't heard of it, it's basically an online diary of two friends, Jessica and Tim, who decided earlier this year to date each other for forty days since neither of them has managed to keep a relationship going (for very different reasons) so far in their lives. Jessie loves 'love', and is constantly searching for something meaningful, getting too attached too fast, while Tim is more of a casual dater, dating several girls at once and breaking it off before it goes too far. So far they've posted up to day thirty one and I can't stop reading!

Style Icon of the Week
Lily Collins

source

I picked up the September issue of Glamour yesterday, mainly because I've been finding myself quite drawn to Lily Collins lately, and I wanted to read her interview. However, I think she looks amazing on the cover. Love the red dress and Audrey Hepburn-esque hair and eyebrows. She's got a sort of pixie look, if that makes sense, and I think this style really, really suits her.

What have some of your favourite things been this week? Let me know in the comments! :)

Favourites of the Week #14

Wednesday, 24 July 2013

It's that time again - here we go with another weekly favourites! I have, however, left ot a couple of categories this week as I've been a totally reading failure and have no new books to discuss with you... and *shock horror* the same goes for blogs!! Fear not, I'll make up for it with two bloggers of the week next week, I'd rather do that than pick someone for the sake of it this week!

Track of the Week
Burn - Ellie Goulding

We all know how much I love Ellie Goulding, and I am very much enjoying her latest offering this week. 'Burn' is a dancy track which I guarantee you'll find yourself tapping your foot along to (or, if you're anything like me, dancing around like a maniac).

Album of the Week
Taylor Swift - Red

This has featured in my weekly favourites so often, because I still love it. It's bizarre because in general I'm not the biggest Taylor Swift fan, but this album is seriously, seriously good. There's really only one track I ever skip past when I'm out and about(Sad, Beautiful, Tragic) and it isn't that I don't like it, I just have to be in a certain mood to listen to it - it's really slow paced, and since I walk ridiculously fast I feel like it's slowing me down (bizarre, I know!).

TV Show of the Week
Person of Interest

My brother and I actually started watching Person of Interest when it first aired last year, but we fell totally behind. Have been catching up with it this week though and I've now seen all of Season 1. Obviously the Lost connection is a biggy for me - created by JJ.Abrams and starring Michael Emerson (Ben Linus from Lost), but what I particularly like about this show is that it manages to keep your interest for the entire first season while revealing very little about the two main characters. That's pretty rare for a twenty odd episode first season. I have to say, I'm not convinced that Jim Cavaziel who plays John is the best actor in the world, but the amazing ability the character has to escpae virtually unscathed from any life threatening situation makes it really entertaining to watch. This guy's tougher than Jack Bauer.

Beauty Product of the Week
Bourjois Colour Boost in Peach on the Beach

I really think this is THE lip colour of the summer - everyone is wearing it!! I love this range from Bourjois, and this bright peachy pink shade is perfect for the sunny weather we've been having lately (okay not yesterday or today, but last week was good!).

YouTuber of the Week
Daily Grace

This needs no explanation. She always, always makes me laugh!!

Website of the Week
Bloglovin

Obviously the whole Google Reader craziness has calmed down a bit now and I'm trying to getting used to using bloglovin! I actually quite like it - it's really easy to navigate and lets me keep up with all my favourite blogs :)

Style Icon of the Week
Julianne Hough

Firstly, let's take a moment for me to cry upon discovering that Julianne is less than a year older than me. Now that I've composed myself, let's enjoy her fashion choice from last week. I love the shade of this peachy mini-dress, and although it's a bit shorter than I would usually go (cue the 100 denier black tights), I do love a peplum. Now all I can think about it how badly I want to see Safe Haven (partly to fall in love with Josh Duhamel all over again, but also because I'm a sucker for a romantic movie)...

What have some of your favourite things been this week? Let me know in the comments! :)

Favourites of the Week #13

Sunday, 7 July 2013

I'm back with aother weekly favourites post! Typing this just minutes after Andy Murray won Wimbledon... what a day!!!

Track of the Week
Saturday Night - Natalia Kills

I really do love Natalia Kills, and I feel like she doesn't really get the hype she probably deserves. This song is ridiculously catchy, but if you properly listen to the lyrics it has a really dark undertone. It's delving into a much darker part of her past than any of her other songs have really revealed. Combining these lyrics with such an upbeat, catchy melody is a really interesting mix. Check out some of her older songs like Wonderland, Kill My Boyfriend and Break You Hard too - they're amazing!

Album of the Week
Kodaline - In a Perfect World

This is a phenomenal debut album, and one of those ones you wonder how they will ever follow up with their next album! I will say it maybe loses a tiny bit of momentum towards the end, but there still isn't a single track on it I don't like.

TV Show of the Week
New Girl

I adore New Girl, and finally got the season one box set this week! I have seen lots of random episodes, watched some on the plane home from Australia actually and I have wanted to be able to sit and watch it properly ever since. I had a little NG marathon last night and I'm falling dangerously in love with Jake Johnson who plays Nick... ladies, I challenge you not to!

Beauty Product of the Week
Nivea Lip Butter in Raspberry Rose

I am absolutely loving this lip butter from Nivea, I got it as a little extra birthday present and it's amazing! It tastes so good, I can't even describe it, I have to stop myself trying to eat it!!

Book of the Week
The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey

Still on The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey and still really enjoying it. It's intense, I'll say that! I've said it before, alien stories are not my cup of tea, but this one is pretty interesting!

YouTuber of the Week
Tanya Burr

This week Tanya Burr hit one million subscribers and uploaded a video to celebrate, which inlcuded lots of little clips sent in by her subscribers commenting on how happy her videos make them, and how she makes them feel better when they're feeling down. I can't imagine what an amazing feeling that must be. If I could do YouTube for a living, I absolutely would - it must be so great to be able to do what you love and what you have fun doing with your friends for a living, and to have such incredible support from your viewers. I've been watching Tanya's videos for years now, and her videos really are lovely. So if you haven't already checked them out, go and do so now!

Blog of the Week
Charlotte's Web

I discovered Charlotte's blog just a couple of weeks ago - she was another one of Louise Sprinkle of Glitter's Amazing Advertisers last month, and I instantly fell in love with her blog! It's so pretty, with such lovely photographs and easy to read posts. Definitely go and check this one out guys! :)

Website of the Week
Twitter

More blog love for twitter this week - just took part in the loveliest #lbloggers chat (you know I love a good twitter chat) and the topic was blogging friends/blogs that have inspired you - it was a really lovely, positive conversation and as usual made me appreciate what a great thing blogging is :)

Style Icon of the Week
Mischa Barton

source

Mischa Barton at Berlin Fashion Week - not sure how I feel about the sunglasses, I have to admit, but I love the combination of this sophisticated orange dress with the casually worn studded leather jacket!

What have some of your favourite things been this week? Let me know in the comments! :)

Favourites of the Week #12

Second post of the day - I'm on a roll! Be sure to check out my Girls Night In post too :)

I've actually missed a couple of weeks of favourites - do not know where the past two weeks have gone!

Track of the Week
High Hopes

LOVE LOVE LOVE. This song is amazing, as is the album. I like to describe Kodaline as the perfect mix of Snow Patrol, Mumford and Sons and Keane, with a tiny bit of Bastille and Coldplay thrown in there for good measure. Maybe even with a spoonful of Bon Iver at times... excellent narrowing down for you guys ;)

Album of the Week
Bo Bruce - Before I Sleep

Rather than say anything about this here, I'll just link my video review. I think it will highlight just how much love I have for this incredible album <3

TV Show of the Week
The Returned

I've been loving 'The Returned', the French thriller on Channel 4. If you haven't caught it yet, you can catch up on 4od, it's on every Sunday evening for 8 weeks, and three episodes have aired already. It's all very French, with simmering tension, bizarre goings on and a lot of unanswered questions. There have been a couple of slightly gruesome scenes, but nothing I can't handle and I'm a total wimp when it comes to horror type material, so most people will cope just fine with it!

Beauty Product of the Week
Bourjois Colour Boost Lipstick in Orange Punch

I've said it before and I'll say it again - this product is amazing! Love everything about it from the shade and colour payoff, to the consistency and the packaging. Excellent job Bourjois :)

Book of the Week
The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey

Okay, so I haven't actually started reading this (or even purchased it) but such a buzz is being generated over it that I feel compelled to start reading it asap! It's a sci-fi sort of book, which I'm not usually all that interested it, but the style of it actually sounds very much my cup of tea.

YouTuber of the Week
Kandee Johnson

*sigh* I will never, ever tire of Kandee Johnson. She always cheers me up and makes me feel that tiny bit more positive about things. Such a great girl, and her videos are all so entertaining.

Blog of the Week
Mo'Adore

This week's blogger is another who I have had the pleasure of meeting a few times in real life, and it's the lovely Morag :) While I always enjoy stopping by her little corner of the internet, I really enjoyed her most recent post on ''motivation for a healthy lifestyle'' - I recommend you go and check it out immediately :)

Website of the Week
Tumblr

The other week I caved and started a Tumblr. I have posted about three things on it so far, but I would like to attempt to use it more... we will see if this transpires! If you're interested, pop over and have a wee look here :)

Style Icon of the Week
Kristen Bell

source

To be honest, Kristen isn't just a style icon for me - she's one of my favourite people. I love pretty much everything about her, from her passion and dedication to the charities she supports to her amazing sense of humour. But I think she looked amazing hosting the CMT Awards a couple of weeks ago, especially considering she gave birth to her baby girl just a couple of months ago! Love the hair and makeup, and both dresses - the total clash of styles with the classic updo and floor length gown, and the more rock and roll vibe of the other dress is amazing.

What have some of your favourite things been this week? Let me know in the comments! :)

Thanks for reading!

Favourites of the Week #10

Saturday, 1 June 2013

How is it possible that another week has gone past already?

Track of the Week
Daylight - Maroon 5

Not exactly a new song, but I rediscovered my love for this song this week (it's so good!). I have had it on repeat all week.

Album of the Week
Demi Lovato - Demi

I don't actually own this album yet, but I plan to soon! I've just been listening to all the tracks on YouTube and loving it! I'm a huge Demi fan, I think she's got a brilliant personality to match her amazing voice, and I love how open and honest she is about the problems she's dealt with in the past. That's another issue for another post though! Love this album, here's one of my favourite tracks so far... for some reason the video I've been listening to all week has been taken down and this one has the pitch altered a bit... but oh well!

TV Show of the Week
Once Upon a Time

I love Once Upon a Time - as you can probably tell from the design of my blog header, fairytales are pretty high up the list of things I like! So a TV show, by the creators of my all time favourite TV programme Lost, was bound to be a hit with me! I keep falling a couple of episodes behind though (thank goodness for Demand 5!).

Film of the Week
Silver Linings Playbook

I'm drawing a complete blank here this week, as I haven't watched any films! So I'm just going to go for Silver Linings Playbook again, as I still haven't got over how good it is. Honestly. It's amazing!!!

Beauty Product of the Week
Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer

I picked this up as part of the 3 for 2 deal in Superdrug last week and so far I'm really liking it. It's a nice consistency, is really reasonably priced and seems to be keeping my makeup in place quite well despite the weird phase my skin is going through!

Book of the Week
One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern/The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald

Haven't been any better this week - I'm going to see Gatsby tomorrow and I still haven't finished the book!!

YouTuber of the Week
Daily Grace

I've had a bit of a rubbishy weeky (the joys of job hunting, eh?!) and watching Grace's videos never fails to put a smile on my face. This girl is hilarious, and I'm sure you already know who she is but if not, go and check her out immediately :)

Blog of the Week
Lisette Loves

A few weeks ago, thanks to the weekly #lbloggers chat, I started tweeting a lovely girl called Lisette, and fell in love with her blog. It's a mixture of lifestyle posts, focusing on all the things she's loving at any one time, so do go and check it out :) She's also started making youtube videos too, which you can find here.

Website of the Week
Hello Giggles

I don't know if it's really worth me having a website of the week section because 9 times out of 10 it's Hello Giggles - so many funny, honest, relevant articles, I'm never short of something to read.

Style Icon of the Week
Isla Fisher

source

And, for the second time in three weeks, Isla Fisher is my style icon of the week (although I'm cheating a tiny bit as this photo is actually nearer two weeks old). She looked amazing at the Now You See Me premiere in New York, in a very 'Great Gatsby'-esque gown. You're on top form at the moment Miss Fisher.

What have some of your favourite things been this week?

Thanks for reading!

Favourites of the Week #9

Saturday, 25 May 2013

It's Saturday afternoon, so I'm actually a little late in doing my weekly favourites, but here they are nonetheless!

Track of the Week
Hand on Heart - Olly Murs

I love Olly Murs, but I hadn't properly listened to all of the tracks on his latest album until a couple of weeks ago, which was when I fell in love with Hand on Heart. I'm the kind of person who can (and will!) make a film trailer/music video in my head for any song, but this one is particularly good for doing that!

Album of the Week
Olly Murs - Right Place, Right Time

I've been addicted to this album this week. It's such a feel good album, as all of Olly's albums have been.

TV Show of the Week
Dexter - Season 6

Season 6 of Dexter this week, and the writing is as strong as ever. Seriously, it never, ever dips. There hasn't been one season yet where I've thought 'Meh, could be better'. To keep up such consistently good writing (and acting!) for so many seasons is a total triumph these days.

Film of the Week
The Great Gatsby

I STILL haven't seen Gatsby, but I've talked to so many people about it I feel like I have! I'm definitely going to go and see it next week!

Beauty Product of the Week
Australis Creme Colour in Flirtacious Pink

I bought this little lip and cheek duo in Australia and while I'm never using it as a lip product, I've worn it as my cheek colour pretty much every day since I got home. It's so lovely and easy to blend, I wish we got it here in the UK!

Book of the Week
One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern/The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald

I'm still on these two, I've been so lazy with reading this week - will do better next week, I promise!!

YouTuber of the Week
Books and Quills

This week I watched one of Sanne's videos titled 'I Ship', and got ridiculously excited and made a video response (which you can watch here). I am a huge fangirl when it comes to film/tv/literary romance, it's quite sad really, so this was the perfect video for me! Sanne's booktube channel is definitely worth watching - her videos are clear, concise and always interesting to watch.

Blog of the Week
Cocktails and Daydreams

Lynne is one of the lovely bloggers I've had the pleasure of getting to know already through blogging events, and Cocktails and Daydreams is her lovely little corner of the internet. This year she has started a series of posts called 'Extracts', where she goes through snippets of her childhood and teenage diaries, and these posts are guaranteed to put a smile on my face!! You can check out her blog here :)

Website of the Week
ASOS

I saw a lot of pretty things on ASOS this week. I therefore have not been back on... just incase.

Style Icon of the Week
Ellie Goulding

source

Oh hiiii Ellie. I think a small part of me actually wants to be Ellie Goulding, and this dress is not helping matters. I love it when she really glams it up, because she's so often really chilled and casual, but she looked amazing in this statement Patricia Bonaldi gown at the amfAR (Cinema Against Aids) Gala at Cannes this week. I think these see through skirt dresses that are popping up all over the place this season can be a little bit hit or miss, but I'm loving this one.

Also, who knew she was dating Jeremy Irvine?!

What have some of your favourite things been this week?

Thanks for reading!

Favourites of the Week #8

Friday, 17 May 2013

It's time for another weekly favourites! How the weeks fly by!

Track of the Week
Alive - Bo Bruce

I have fallen completely in love with this track from Bo Bruce's album. I fell a little bit in love with her herself on The Voice last year - there's something about her voice that just gives me chills. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's certainly mine! I love the lyrics of this song (written by Bo and her coach from The Voice, Danny O'Donoghue), and I've listened to it I don't know how many times this week!

Album of the Week
The Great Gatsby Soundtrack

While I haven't listened to everything on it yet, my best friend just let me hear a few of the tracks from The Great Gatsby OST and wow. It's amazing. Definitely one to listen to! I'm including this amazing Florence and the Machine track, but look out for Andre 3000 and Beyonce's amazing rendition of Back to Black - it's insane!

TV Show of the Week
Dexter - Season 5

This week I watched the last three episodes of Dexter Season 5 and was completely blown away. This show honestly just gets better and better and while I'm a bit behind, I can't wait to jump into season 6 now! Michael C Hall and Julia Stiles just blew my mind, there was an actual, palpable vibe every time they were on the screen together, it sounds mad but there were moments I was literally holding my breath (ahh the dramatic response of a film and tv graduate!). And Jennifer Carpenter was as brilliant as ever. I'm thinking of writing a separate post on this actually...

Film of the Week
The Hunger Games

Again, this is something my best friend Emma and I were discussing, and we were actually talking about the problems with the film for people who haven't read the book first - there are definitely some things that you miss. However, I had read the book before I watched the film (way back last summer!) and I absolutely love it. I love the whole idea of The Hunger Games, and I think Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson (team Peeta all the way ;)) are brilliant. I am absolutely Hunger Games mad, by the way, and I'm currently rereading Catching Fire (juggling three books at once haha) because I got so excited when I saw the trailer for the new film!

Beauty Product of the Week
Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry

I love my Maybelline Baby Lips which I picked up when I was in Hong Kong - why can't we get them here in the UK yet?!!

Book of the Week
The Great Gatsby

I've literally just started it, but I need to attempt to read this before I go and see the film! I've wanted to read it for so long too, I don't know why I'm taking so long! I'm actually giving a copy away on my YouTube channel so check that out here :)

YouTuber of the Week
The Bumps Along the Way

This is a pregnancy channel which I know won't interest everyone, but I stumbled across this video when a couple of people I'm subscribed to liked it - I just think it's the loveliest video. I was really touched when I read what the channel is about, and a bit about Missy and Bryan's story.

Blog of the Week (new category!)
Indigo Buttons

Sometimes you read someone's blog and think 'Yep. We'd definitely get along in real life!", and that's how I felt the minute I started reading the lovely Kirsty's blog! Last week was Kirsty's six month blogaversary (check out the post here!) and I look forward to many, many more months (and years!) of her posts! It's a really interesting mix, so go and check it out :)

Website of the Week
Hello Giggles

Again and again I come back to this website - I can't get enough of it. Don't get me wrong, I blog about beauty and I'm just as guilty of catching up on celebrity gossip as anyone else, but sometimes it feels like there's a gap - like magazines spoonfeed us articles on beauty, fashion, sex and relationships and celebrities, without really getting to the heart of what ordinary women are interested in (thank goodness for blogging!). Enter, Hello Giggles. Without fail, there's an article on here every day that interests me, and I'm so glad it exists!

Style Icon of the Week
Isla Fisher

source

I think Isla Fisher got it exactly right for both the photocall for The Great Gatsby at Cannes, and the premiere itself. Her white Dolce and Gabana dress, black peep toe heels and bold red lip looked simple and classy for the photocall and then she amped it up with that stunning scarlet Oscar de la Renta strapless gown for the premiere. Nothing too fancy with the hair, just simple waves, and a statement necklace from Bulgari Heritage finished off the look perfectly. You've come a long way from Summer Bay, Miss Fisher.

So that's it for another week! Let me know what your favourite things have been this week :)

Thanks for reading!

Favourites of the Week #7

Thursday, 9 May 2013

It's the return of my weekly favourites!!

While I was travelling I didn't really have time to do these posts, and I've missed them. So, without further ado, here are the things I've been loving this week...

Track of the Week
Can't Hold Us - Savannah Outen and Jake Coco (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Cover)

This week I've been testing how fast I can sing/sort of rap by having this cover of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on repeat on my iPod. Trust me, there's nothing like the feeling of satisfaction when you realise you've learnt all the words...

Album of the Week
Ellie Goulding - Halcyon

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love Ellie Goulding to pieces and this album is most definitely top of my playlist this week. There are a few standout tracks (Figure 8, My Blood and I Need Your Love being three obvious favourites), but there are a couple that really grow on you the more you listen, which is one of the things I really love about Ellie's music - Don't Say a Word and Hanging On are two examples of this.

TV Show of the Week
Veronica Mars

I never need an excuse to revisit Veronica Mars and something told me (maybe all the Kirsten Bell interviews I've been watching!) this week that I should make the always exciting move of rewatching the Pilot - I'm hooked again already. Honestly, it is one of the best television shows of all time!!! I couldn't be more pleased that a film is finally in the pipeline!

Film of the Week
Silver Linings Playbook

As I mentioned in my What I've Been Watching post the other day, I absolutely adored Silver Linings Playbook and went out and bought the dvd. Never, in recent times, have I parted with £12 for a newly released dvd - I'm more of a 'wait till it's been out a few months and get it cheap on Amazon' kind of gal. But in this case I couldn't resist. I love everything about this film, from the plot to the soundtrack to the brilliant acting from every single member of the cast (with Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence both completely deserving their Oscar nominations). If you haven't seen it, you should! I know this is one I will watch over and over again.

Beauty Product of the Week
Revlon Lip Butter in Wild Watermelon

I treated myself to this when they were on offer for £5.99 in Superdrug and I've fallen completely in love with it! I adore the Revlon Lip Butter's anyway, but this colour is gorgeous. It's much more vibrant than what I usually wear on my lips, but I really like it, and will do a proper review, complete with photos and swatches soon!

Book of the Week
One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern

As you all know, I love Cecelia Ahern and I downloaded her most recent book on my Kindle while I was in Australia. I didn't get a chance to start reading it till I got home though, and I'm about a quarter of the way through it - really enjoying it so far. It's the story of a journalist named Kitty who has found herself in hot water after wrongly accusing a man of a crime he didn't commit, with disastrous results for her personal life and career. Alongside this, her friend, mentor and boss has just passed away, leaving her with a list of names connected to a story she wanted to write before she died. Kitty is left to figure out how these one hundred people are connected and hopefully write the story Constance never had the chance to. It's another interesting concept from Ahern, and I just love her writing style.

YouTuber of the Week
Louise - Sprinkle of Glitter

We all know I love Louise, but this week she uploaded an interesting video addressing the tricky subject of self-harm and I think she handled it brilliantly. It must be difficult for YouTubers with a lot of subscribers when people ask them to make videos on this sort of serious topic. But it was a well balanced, properly researched video and didn't go on for too long - it said exactly what it needed to say. Apparently it was mentioned on the BBC and Sky News too!

Blog of the Week (new category!)
Roaring Twenties

You know when someone has a distinctive style that you just instantly love? For me I found that when I first started reading the lovely Margaret's blog a few months back after meeting her at a blogger event in Edinburgh. I love the tone of her posts, the film quotes and the fact that she rarely writes a post that doesn't have me laughing out loud (I wish there was a way to describe that that didn't instantly make me see LOL in giant letters!), she just has a brilliant writing style. Anyway, go and check out her blog, and if you're anything like me you'll love it :) (http://roaringtwentiesblog.blogspot.co.uk)

Website of the Week
Twitter

Loving twitter again - I found out about the Harvey Nichols Beauty Parlour through twitter last week and attended the event tonight! It was great fun and I got to catch up with the lovely Roisin from Lost my Heart in Wonderland and meet Laura from The Likely Lady for the first time, which was great (more on this event in another post)! I also thoroughly enjoyed the #lbloggers chat on Sunday evening, it was nice to join in again after my travels!

Style Icon of the Week
Emmy Rossum

I'm just going to ignore the fact that Emmy Rossum's Donna Karan Atelier gown doesn't exactly fit with the punk theme of the 2013 Met Gala, because it is beautiful and I want it. I love the colour, I love the shape, I love the beaded detailing and I love that she didn't overdo it with the train. It's perfect. And her heavy smokey eye, nude lip, perfect brows and braided up-do compliment it perfectly. Love. It.

image 1 image 2

Hope you enjoyed that guys, what have you been loving in the film, fashion, music and blogging world this week?

Thanks for reading!

Favourites of the Week #6

Friday, 22 March 2013

Hey all! It's my first weekly favourites from my travels :)

Track of the Week
I Love It (I Don't Care) - Icona Pop

This song has been playing everywhere here in Sydney and is constantly stuck in my head - catchy, dancy pop, the perfect song for preparing for a night out/dancing to when you're out!

Album of the Week
Beyonce - 4

I've been playing this album a lot of my iPod while I'm exploring Sydney - was flying solo this week while the others were at Surf Camp - and it's such a good album, the perfect mix of tracks.

TV Show of the Week
How I Met Your Mother

I've been having some HIMYM marathons here at my Aunt and Uncle's house this week - I had only seen up to season 6, so I'm catching up on season 7 now, and so much is happening. So much love for Robin and Barney.

Film of the Week
The Perks of Being a Wallflower

I watched it on the flight over to Hong Kong and absolutely loved it. It really surprised me, I hadn't expected it to be quite as deep as it was, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was nice to see Emma Watson not being Hermione - it's the first time I've seen her in another part!

Beauty Product of the Week
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

I'm sure this won't be surprising - in a hot climate, powder is a must, and I love this affordable Rimmel one.

Book of the Week
Switched by Amanda Hocking

I'm almost finished 'Switched', and while it isn't exactly literary genius it has entertained me for the past couple of weeks. It's so fast paced I could have read it much quicker, but so far I haven't had much of a chance to read!

YouTuber of the Week
Alex G

I love all of Alex's covers, if you haven't checked her out before, go and do it now!!

Website of the Week
Skype/Facetime

What would I do without Facetime and Skype to talk to my family and friends? I know for definite I couldn't have coped being this far away from them without it.

Style Icon of the Week
Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr always looks stunning, but I think she looks particularly amazing on the cover of Vogue Australia this month - look at that hair! Gorgeous.

source

Sorry this was a shorter favourites post than usual! Hope you are all well, keep your eyes peeled for my first post all about Sydney! :)

Favourites of the Week #4

Monday, 25 February 2013

Another week has disappeared and that can mean only one thing - it's time for my weekly favourites!

Track of the Week
Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love

I'm a MASSIVE Ellie Goulding fan, and have been for years. Have been listening to this catchy little number quite a lot this week though and have given it a big thumbs up from the first time I heard it a few months back. It's quite a good motivational sort of one, I found myself dancing about to it when I was getting ready for the lovely Scottish Bloggers Valentines Party on Saturday!

Album of the Week
Les Miserables Original Soundtrack

Now here's a fun album to listen to on the train - half of it makes me want to cry, the other half makes me want to laugh because I realise it's taking all of my willpower to NOT mime dramatically along with it. Yes, yes, I'm still loving the film, was glad to see Annie Hathaway getting her much deserved Best Supporting Actress Oscar last night!

TV Show of the Week
Dexter

A few episodes into season 4 now as I continue to work my way through the boxsets, and this show just keeps getting better and better. The writing is incredible, so slick and witty and the storylines just keep surprising me over and over again. Desperately trying to avoid spoilers for the next few seasons, but unfortunately I've come across a few on twitter - the perils of watching something a while after it originally aired!!

Film of the Week
Much Ado About Nothing

I was lucky enough to head into Glasgow last night to see Joss Whedon's adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing with a couple of friends. It was fantastic!! Starring a lot of Whedon's favourite actors and shot in black and white at his amazing house, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Initially I was a little bit unsure about Amy Acker as Beatrice, but I totally warmed up to her by about half way through, and I thought Alex Denisof was brilliant as Benedick (as was Nathan Fillion as Dogberry). My best friend and I have a little bit of an obsession with the BBC version with Damian Lewis and Sarah Parish, so seeing the film last night has made me determined to rewatch it before I head off to Australia!

Beauty Product of the Week
Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal Liner in Nude

Love this eyeliner so much, it is so affordable, retailing at just £4 from Boots and Superdrug, and it makes such a difference to your eyes. Running it along your waterline just makes you look so wide awake, and the waterproof formula means it doesn't budge!

Book of the Week
The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern

Almost finished The Book of Tomorrow now and I have absolutely adored it. Cecelia Ahern never fails to capture my imagination and her characters are always so vivid. I would recommend this one in a heartbeat!

YouTuber of the Week
Madilyn Bailey

I have loved Madilyn's covers for over a year now and she never fails to deliver. Got a tiny bit overexicted there to check my YouTube subscriptions to link her channel in this post and discovered she'd uploaded a new video!

Website of the Week
Beabops Style Diary

My fashion blogger friend Beatrice had the exciting opportunity to go to London Fashion Weekend this week and take photos for Canon! It looks like she had a fantastic time and I have been looking forward to her posts all week - go and check out her blog, I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I do :)

Style Icons of the Week
Reese Witherspoon

source

Still not quite 100% sure how I feel about the train of this dress, but otherwise I love it. It really stood out to me among the much paler hues of a lot of the other dresses on the Oscars Red Carpet last night, and I love the black detailing. This isn't always the easiest colour to pull off, but as usual Reese did it effortlessly, and I think the glamorous hair and simple makeup complimented it perfectly.

Emma Roberts

source

This is a last minute addition to my post as I published it before I had seen any photos of Emma Roberts in her gorgeous Oscar de la Renta gown. I love this, the shape, the style, everything about it. I might have done something a little different with her hair, but the makeup is lovely - flawless skin, nude lips and lots of lashes. But the dress speaks for itself here.

So that's it for my favourites of the week! Hope you all had a lovely week. What was your favourite red carpet look last night?

Favourites of the Week #3

Monday, 18 February 2013

Can't believe it's time for my weekly favourites again already - the weeks are flying in! I'm going to be in Australia before I know it!!

Track of the Week
Sweet Nothing - Cover by Madilyn Bailey and Corey Gray

I love love love this cover. I actually do really like the Florence Welch/Calvin Harris original too, but this acoustic cover is brilliant. I'm a huge fan of Madilyn and Corey, two of my favourite artists on YouTube, so I tend to love anything they do!

Album of the Week
The Naked and Famous - Passive Me, Aggressive You

Love this album. It reminds me of being all cosy on the train because I first got it before I was working on a three day makeup job in Edinburgh and had it on repeat there and back every day. There are a couple of not so good tracks, I have to admit, but my love for the really good ones cancels that out ;)

TV Show of the Week
Black Books

My brother borrowed my Black Books boxset last week to rewatch it, and it totally put me in mind to watch a few episodes too. This show will never ever fail to make me laugh, Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey and Tamsin Greig are all fantastic.

Film of the Week
Les Miserables

Still hasn't changed, although to be fair I haven't actually watched any films this week so that could be why. That, or the fact I'm still obsessed with Les Mis and have watched several Behind the Scenes videos on YouTube this week!

Beauty Product of the Week
MAC Woodwinked Eyeshadow

I've worn this either just blended across the lid or through the crease with a dark brown shadow this a few times this week and I'm really loving it again.

Book of the Week
The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern

I'm still persevering with 'The Hundred Year Old Man...' (okay, weird sentence!) but for some reason I just kept struggling to concentrate on it. So I popped to the library in my home town and picked up a Cecelia Ahern book I haven't read yet, and as usual when it comes to her books, I'm loving it so far - I love the fairytale like quality to her novels, and they are so easy to read.

YouTuber of the Week
Leena from JustKissMyFrog

I love all of Leena's videos, she's one of the people I get most excited about seeing a new video in my subscription box from - go and check out her channel immediately if you haven't already!

Website of the Week
Twitter

I had such a nice time joining in with the #lbloggers and #bbloggers chats again on twitter last night, and got talking to some lovely bloggers - this is the magic of twitter :)

Style Icon of the Week
Mollie King

I can't say that Mollie from the Saturdays is usually someone who I am drawn to style wise (not that I dislike her style, I just haven't ever realy noticed it!) but I really like a couple of her outfits from the past few days at London Fashion Week. Simple but effective.

source L and R

So that's it for my favourites of the week! I'd love to hear what some of yours are! :)

Favourites of the Week #2

Monday, 11 February 2013

Track of the Week
Just Give Me a Reason by Pink ft. Nate Ruess

Only just discovered this song and I love it. First of all, Pink is vocally amazing here, and Nate Ruess (otherwise known as the lead singer from Fun if like me the name didn't ring a bell!) is fantastic. It's a great song, but I have to draw attention to the video... it is absolutely insane! I'd try to explain, but it would be futile - I couldn't possibly capture the nuttiness that is this video. You'd be better to watch for yourself!

Album of the Week
Tyler Ward's ''Hello. Love. Heartbreak''

I've been listening to this lovely album a lot again this week. Love it. Dashes may be my favourite track.

TV Show of the Week
Arrested Development

Still working my way through Dexter, but I've been rewatching a lot of Arrested Development this week. This show never gets old :)

Film of the Week
Les Miserables

Went to see it for the second time yesterday... have I mentioned that I kind of like it? So pleased Anne Hathaway got the BAFTA and gutted Hugh Jackman didn't!

Beauty Product of the Week
L'Oreal Rouge Caresse lipstick in Dating Coral

Love love loving this again, it is probably my favourite lipstick of all time.

Book of the Week
The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson

I have to admit I've slacked off a wee bit in terms of reading this week, still on the same one as last week!

YouTuber of the Week
Kandee Johnson

Has to be Kandee Johnson, I always have and always will adore that woman, she is a little ray of sunshine.

Website of the Week
HelloGiggles

I've been loving all of the articles on Hello Giggles this week - I really, really love this website. My favourite articles this week were this one here on the gorgeous Aaron Tveit in Les Miserables, and this one here on Beyonce and the Superbowl :)

Style Icon of the Week
Anne Hathaway

This is a new category I've added in! After flicking through the best dressed photos from the BAFTAs and the Grammys I thought it was a good one to add :) I thought Anne Hathaway looked so gorgeous last night in her Burberry gown. So elegant and classy, and in keeping with the monochrome trend that overwhelmed the red carpet last night!

So that's it for my favourites of the week! I'd love to hear what some of yours are! :)

Favourites of the Week #1

Sunday, 3 February 2013

I thought today I'd just do a quick post on some of my favourite 'things' from the past week!

Track of the Week

Pompeii by Bastille
Don't ask me why, but this track has just kept lifting my spirits this week!

Album of the Week

Red by Taylor Swift
For the millionth week running. There isn't a single track I don't like, but I'm particularly loving Holy Ground this week.

TV Show of the Week

Dexter
I'm way behind, currently watching Season 3 on DVD!

Film of the Week

Les Mis
That's right. I'm still not done raving about how good this film is!

Beauty Product of the Week

Illamasqua Satin Primer
My skin has been looking pretty awful since I've been a bit under the weather and this just gives it a nice lift.

Book of the Week

The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
Started reading this on my Kindle a couple of days ago and I'm loving it so far, it's such an interesting idea.

YouTuber of the Week

Chelsea from Ophelia Dagger
Chelsea's vlogs every other day the past couple of weeks have been guaranteed to make me laugh (as most of her brilliant videos do)

Website of the Week

Pinterest
I abandoned Pinterest for a while there, but I'm pleased to say it's now firmly back in my life :)

What have been some of your favourite 'things' this week? :)
