The Blogger Tag

Sunday, 5 October 2014

Cute onesie? Check. Mug of tea? Check. Instagram filter? Check. The most "blogger" photo ever? I think so.

I was tagged yesterday by one of my blogging besties, Roisin, to complete The Blogger Tag - these are eight easy peasy (well, not that easy - let me tell you, I could be here all day with question seven!!) questions that are perfect for any blogger to answer! So in addition to tagging my pals Nikki, Lynne and Gemma, I tag any of you out there who fancy taking part!

Without further ado, I'll get on with answering the questions!

1) What's your favourite beauty product?

I think that has to be the L'Oréal Superliner - my holy grail liquid eyeliner. It's the product I think I would have the hardest time replacing, and as sad as this sounds, it's what makes my face look like my face! I switch up what foundation I use every so often, and I could happily swap my current powder/blushers for something different. I adore my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer, but I know there are other concealers out there that are probably just as good, and I am forever trying different eyeshadows, lip products and particularly mascaras. My daily flick of liquid eyeliner, however, is just never quite the same if I use something other than the L'Oréal one! I love the shape and texture of the applicator, love the consistency of the product and I get a nice, clean line every time!

2) If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I have a long, long list of places, but my top three at the moment are New York, Iceland and Hawaii. New York, as cliched as it is, has been at the top of my list for as long as I can remember. It's just one of those cities that has so many beautiful, iconic places to visit, and somewhere I would hate to go my whole life without experiencing. The buzz and the atmosphere must just be incredible! Then there's Iceland, somewhere I've wanted to go for years and I'm still not one hundred percent sure what inspired that! I think the landscape just looks so stunning, and the idea of swimming in the hot pools surrounded by ice sounds so amazing. There's something sort of magical about Iceland, or the many, many, many photos I've seen have certainly made me feel that way! Finally, there's Hawaii and if I'm totally honest about this, it's because Lost was filmed in Hawaii, and I have such a connection with that show that getting to visit the place it was filmed would be really special. Those, however, are just three on a very long list - check out my Wanderlust board on Pinterest for some examples!

3) What is your all-time favourite brand?

I think it would have to be Bourjois. They have an incredible range of products, which are excellent quality (not really surprising what with the Chanel connection), beautiful packaging, reasonable price point and consistently impressive new releases throughout the year - what more could you ask for! In particular, I love their foundations, mascaras, lipsticks and 1 Second Nail Polishes, but I'd really recommend trying any of their products!

4) Do you collect anything, and if so, what is it?

I suppose I collect DVD boxsets - I'm a bit of a TV addict, and although Netflix is one of the best things ever, there's something about owning a show you particularly love on DVD that just feels special to me. Bizarre, I know, but things like my complete Veronica Mars boxset, which I got years before they released the UK edition in 2014, means so much to me! The packaging is in French, and every time I look at it I remember how excited I was the day I finally managed to track down a region 2 boxset on Play.com!

5) Early bird or night owl?

Night owl, without a doubt. I am not what you would call a morning person, and given the opportunity, I would happily stay up till the wee hours writing blog posts, or editing essays (while I was at uni). I always feel more productive late at night than I do in the morning. Sadly, society does not take individual body clocks into account and starting the working day at 9am is the norm, but what can you do!

6) Tea or coffee?

Tea, hands down. If I'm at home I can get through a worrying number of cups in a day - there's just something really comforting about a good cup of tea. I love the smell of coffee, but unfortunately don't like the taste. I've tried everything from a latte to a cappuccino to some of the iced coffee you can get in Starbucks etc, but I'm yet to find one I actually like the taste of!

7) What is your favourite TV show?

We could be here all day! I think I have to say Lost because when push comes to shove, it is the show that always pops into my head first. The characterisation on that show was just absolutely incredible. However, my favourite TV shows (plural) include Veronica Mars, Being Erica, 24, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, Dexter, Once Upon a Time, The Vampire Diaries/The Originals, Black Books, Friends, Prison Break and Arrested Development, and I watch Home and Away and Neighbours every day. It's so hard to choose! At the moment it's The Originals, because I've just finished devouring the incredible first season, but I absolutely adore all of the shows I just listed. I could write about/talk about/analyse television quite happily all day, every day!

8) If you could travel to any era, what would it be?

Oooh, now there's a question. In all honesty, I've never had a massive hankering to travel to any other era - I'm fascinated by really far back history (I really enjoyed studying the Aztecs at primary school!), and the irony is that I absolutely love books, films and television shows that deal with time travel, but I've never been too worried about actually visiting another time period. Maybe I would say the time of the Aztecs (roughly 14th-16th Centuries, in the Central American area) - I feel like although things have changed dramatically over the past century, I'd be more interested to see what the world was like in a completely different time, when it would be utterly unrecognisable to us. It really would be like living on another planet! I think my internet providers heard me saying this and decided to give me a taste of technology free life, because just as I typed this my internet totally lost connection for an hour and I honestly didn't know what to do with myself!

So that's it for the Blogger Tag! Thanks for tagging me Roisin. As I said earlier, I tag Nikki, Lynne and Gemma, but anyone who fancies answering these questions should go for it - leave me a link in the comments if you do!

Thanks for reading :)

What's in My Australia Makeup Bag!

Wednesday, 27 February 2013

With just over a week to go now till I leave for sunnier climes, I'm at the stage of deciding for definite what's going with me and what isn't! So, after giving it some serious thought, I've made a pretty final decision, and thought I'd show you the selection of products I'm packing!

You'd think you can't buy makeup in Australia...

Base

Illamasqua Matt Primer, Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation (Ivory), Barry M Cream Foundation (White), Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (Fair), Garnier Roll-On Concealer (Light), Rimmel Stay Matte Transluscent Powder.

White foundation is a must for me to pale down my main foundation, and I find that a tiny bit of this really affordable Barry M one does the trick. Matt primer to keen my chin and nose shine free in the warmer weather, my cooling Garnier roller ball concealer (very handy for after long flights!) and a good old transluscent powder should serve me well.

Cheeks

So sorry for the glare in this photo, it's ridiculously sunny today (for a change!)

ELF Studio Blusher in Pink Passion, Sleek Contour Kit in Light, ELF Studio Blusher in Peachy Keen, Physicians Formula Organic Wear Natural Bronzer, Topshop Powder Blush in Pop, Benefit Samples - High Beam and Sun Beam

Three blushers - is that overkill? Pop is one of my favourites, but I love the super natural look of Peachy Keen, and I like having a pink option. Love the highlighter from the Sleek Contour Kit, I use the Physicians Formula bronzer every day and the Benefit samples weigh next to nothing, so why not?! :P

Eyes

Sleek Storm Palette, Sleek Molten Metal Duo, Maybelline Colour Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow in On and On Bronze, Maybelline The Falsies Mascara, L'Oréal Superliner in Black, Rimmel Professional Brow Pencil in Hazel, Rimmel Scanadaleyes Kohl Kajal Liner in Nude, Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Liner in Black.

My hardest category was eye makeup. I decided the Sleek Storm palette had a perfect selection of matte and shimmery colours for any occasion, and having my Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze for a base or super quick eye makeup look is handy. My trusty Superliner is a definite, a nude and black pencil for the waterline (trust me, I had to elimiate a brown, a turquoise and a green from the selection!!) and my Falsies mascara - it took me a while to figure out how I felt about this mascara, but now I love it! A brow pencil and my little Sleek Molten Metail duo - y'know, just for special occasions! ;)

Lips

BMbeauty Lipgloss in Corsage, Revlon Lipbutter in Peach Parfait, L'Oréal Rouge Caresse Lipstick in Dating Coral, Nivea Essentials Lipbalm

Easy peasy, I'm pretty simple when it comes to my lip colour. A lipbalm to keep them moisturised, a subtle gloss - Corsage looks super bright but goes on pretty much nude with a little hint of pinky coral, and it's the least sticky lipgloss I've ever used! - and my two favourite lipsticks, both peachy/coral, my favourite colours for my skin tone :)

Obviously I'll have brushes too, but they're waiting to be washed so didn't bother photographing them!

So, what do you think? Am I overdoing it? Let me know what your favourite makeup products are, in general and for going on holiday, or living abroad for a few months like me! :) Thanks so much for reading guys, can't believe the countdown really is now on!!!

Getting to Know Me - The Liebster Award :)

Tuesday, 15 January 2013

I was really excited to see that the lovely Lynne from Cocktails and Daydreams nominated me and a few other bloggers for the Liebster Award at the weekend :)

This award is a great way of getting blogs (with under 200 followers) out there to the world, and I was thrilled to see I had been tagged to do it! The rules are as follows:

1) Write 11 facts about yourself
2) Answer the 11 questions asked by the person who nominated you
3) Choose up to 11 blogs (with less than 200 followers) and write 11 questions for them (remember to let them know you've nominated them).

11 Fact About Me!

1. I have lived in the same house for my entire life - I'm 23! - since the day I came home from the hospital when I was born. Which will make moving to Australia even more of a big change!!

2. I have a bizarre fear of/dislike of fish, and the idea of deep sea diving strikes absolute terror into me! This goes for fish as food too, seafood/sushi etc aren't my cup of tea!

3. Speaking of cups of tea, I drink about six a day depending on what I'm doing!

4. I have an Honours Degree in Film & Television Studies from Glasgow Univesity.

5. I was school captain for my year group at high school.

6. I love performing, although I haven't done it in years! I studied drama for four years at school, played Ado Annie in our production of Oklahoma and sang a solo at our end of year show.

7. I am baby daft (always have been) and definitely look forward to having my own kids one day in the future!

8. I have watched Home and Away and Neighbours with my mum every day since before I can remember - when I was really small I really just pretended to watch, because she watched them!

9. I don't have any piercings or tattoos, since I took a terrible allergic reaction to having my ears pierced when I was 12!

10. I am a ridiculous old fashioned romantic and will watch literally any rom-com or romantic movie, no matter how cheesy or predictable!

11. I have, quite possibly, the biggest sweet tooth in the world. Cake of any pretty much any kind is definitely my weakness!

11 Questions from Lynne!

1) If you had to go without lipstick or mascara for the rest of your life which could you give up?

I actually find this quite an easy question! I'd definitely go without lipstick, I have a bit of a mascara addiction haha! My eyes are my favourite feature, whereas my lips pretty much don't exist, so I tend to go for lipgloss or balm most of the time anyway.

2) What's your favourite type of blog post to write?

Chatty, rambly posts about things I've been up to - I never stop talking in person, so I end up being the same when I write!

3) What's the best holiday you've ever been on?

Ooh that's a tricky question - I had a lot of amazing family holidays to Aviemore (in the north of Scotland!) when my brother and I were kids, but I also had a fantastic time in Tenerife with my best friend in 2010 and 2011. Most recently I had a wee trip to Aviemore just with my mum, it was only two days but it was amazing, I was in definite need of a wee break and it was perfect!

Classic in the mirror while getting ready photo with my best friend Emma in 2010 ❤

4) What's your favourite TV show?

Ohhhh dear, this could take a while! I studied Film and TV at uni and I'm a television drama addict!! I'm particularly fond of American TV, so a lot of my favourite are American dramas. I don't know if I could pick between 'Lost', 'Being Erica' and '24' though, so I'm going to just call it a draw there :P And if I need cheered up, 'Black Books' or 'Arrested Development' never fail to make me laugh!

5) Are you a heels or flats girl?

I do love heels, but I'm definitely more of a flats girl, I like to be comfortable at all times and with heels I always end up with sore feet by half-way through the night!

6) Which would you rather do: go on a big night out, go for dinner and cinema, or have a night in with a takeaway and a DVD?

All three sound amazing! I think dinner and the cinema though, I love a big night out every now and again, and takeaway with dvd is always a win, but I really enjoy eating out with my friends, and with my film and tv addiction I'm always excited to go to the cinema!

7) Which Friends girls are you most like - Phoebe, Rachel or Monica?

Definitely not Monica, I am not the tidiest of people! I'd probably say I'm most like Rachel, although I love Phoebe, she's hilarious

8) What has been your biggest beauty mistake? A dodgy haircut, questionable makeup look etc

When I was 14, after having a fringe all my life, I decided it was time to grow it out! So, after months and months of growing it out, I went on holiday with my family and sat down once we were home to have a proper look at our holiday photos - I looked horrendous!! I'm just one of these people who will never, ever suit not having a fringe I'm afraid, whether it's on trend or not haha!

9) What's your favourite accent?

It's probably a cliche, but I do love an Irish accent! I really like certain American accents too, and I really like a nicely spoken Scottish accent - how patriotic of me!

10) If you were a celebrity and had to go on a reality show would you rather do Celebrity Big Brother, I'm a Celeb Get Me Out of Here, Strictly Come Dancing, or Dancing on Ice?

Well, I'm a terrible ice skater and I am not the outdoorsy type sadly, so I'll count out 'Dancing on Ice' and 'I'm a Celeb..'! I'm not the most graceful dancer but I really like Strictly, so I'm going to go for it - partly just for the amazing dresses! Maybe I'd improve with a bit of training :P

11) If you were only allowed to buy clothes from one shop/website for a year, which would it be?

I think probably H&M. To be perfectly honest I don't buy clothes all that often, I more of a makeup buyer, but when I do go out looking to spice up my wardrobe (and at a reasonable price) I can usually count on H&M to have something I like!

I Nominate...

3. Which part of your beauty routine (if you have one!) do you least enjoy (skincare, hair, makeup, nails..)?

4. What is your favourite TV show? (Lynne asked me this, but I love asking people this too since I am a self-confessed TV drama addict!)

5. If you were stranded on a desert island (and had access to food, water, medial supplies etc) what one thing would you want to have with you?

6. What was your favourite subject at school and why?

7. What is your favourite scent?

8. Who is your style icon?

9. What is your favourite social media site?

I can't wait to read your responses if you have a chance to do it ladies :)

Thanks again to Lynne for nominating me, and thanks to you guys for reading!
