Valentine's Day - Top 5 TV Romances

Thursday 13 February 2014

Once again Valentine's Day is fast approaching and I've sat for the past hour trying to think of a suitable post. I contemplated writing a ''what to do on Valentine's Day when you're single'' sort of thing, but there are lots of them out there already, and they all say much the same thing - either ''hang out with your single girl friends'' (which is my plan!), ''watch a romantic film'' (really?!), or, one which I've found a little puzzling ''Go on a mate date with one of your guy friends'' (maybe it's just me but wouldn't that just be a combination of confusing and depressing when you're surrounded by actual couples? Let me know if you've done this before and it worked and maybe, if I'm on my lonesome this time next year, I'll drag one of my guy pals out for dinner!).

Last year I did the Celebrity Crush Tag as a video/post for Valentine's Day week and it seemed to go down pretty well! So, this year, I thought I would do another list type post (love me a ''top 5'' so I do), and fill you in on some of my favourite TV romances of all time. I have similar posts for my top 5 TV friendships and Top 5 Romcoms, if you're interested :)

BEWARE OF THE SPOILERS! (contains spoilers for Lost, Veronica Mars, 24, Gilmore Girls and Friends)

Desmond and Penny (Lost)

source

Desmond and Penny may well be my favourite couple ever. For any Lost fans, you'll know the trials and tribulations these two go through to find their way back to each other and they are just lovely. While I couldn't help but get invested in the Jack-Kate-Sawyer-Juliet quadrangle, Desmond and Penny were far simpler and I was rooting for them the whole way through. The scene I've linked above (click on their names to go to the YouTube link) when they finally manage to contact each other is one of my all time favourites!

Logan and Veronica (Veronica Mars)

source

Kristen Bell and Jason Dohring have an INSANE amount of chemistry, so it was little wonder the writers decided to make the most of it and change the direction Logan's character took. I am a huge Veronica and Logan fan, and was from the moment I started watching the show. I know, I know, Piz was lovely and it was all a lot simpler, but I so, so badly wanted them to end up together. That spark and banter between them was just consistently amazing... I really can't wait for the film.

Tony and Michelle (24)

source

Aww I loved Tony and Michelle so much, I really did. I think one of the interesting things about 24 (one of the many, many interesting things!) is how the show handles this sort of situation - if a series starts with two people dating that's fine, but a blossoming relationship is more difficult to deal with since the entire season takes place over the course of one day! But I thought they handled this relationship in season 2 brilliantly. The chemistry between the actors was amazing, and in the following seasons I loved how the dynamic in their relationship constantly shifted.

Lorelai and Luke (Gilmore Girls)

source

For any Gilmore fans, the Lorelai-Luke relationship was always on the cards, and I really loved them together. To be fair, I also really loved Lorelai's relationship with Max (I think I actually wanted to marry Max, I was gutted when they split up to begin with!) but the bond between her and Luke was too obvious to ignore. There are so many scenes between these two that I love, but the one linked above (the infamous first kiss) is always a favourite. I had to include this one too though, because no matter how many times I watch it, it never fails to make me laugh!

Monica and Chandler (Friends)

source

Ross and Rachel always seem to be the first couple people talk about when it comes to Friends, but I was much more of a Monica and Chandler fan. All of their big moments, from when they get together, to the proposal, the wedding, the struggle to get pregnant and then becoming parents are some of my favourite episodes of Friends, and that is saying something! Chandler was definitely my favourite character, and I just loved seeing how their relationship developed over the years - the beauty of a long running tv show!

So that's it for my top 5 favourite TV couples, just in time for Valentine's Day! If you have a date for the occasion I hope you have a lovely time, or if, like me, you're going to have a glass of wine and a laugh with your other single pals I'm sure you'll have just as good a night!! And you never know who you might meet ;)

Thanks so much for reading guys!

  1. A big YES to Gilmore Girls, love that programme. I don't think I've ever watched Veronica Mars so think I'm missing out xx
