My lovely friend Gillian did another Watching Lately post earlier in the week and once again it made me decide to do one of my own! Despite being super busy at uni I seem to have clocked up a good few hours worth of film and television time over the past couple of weeks, so I hope you enjoy this little round up/mini review post :) I've tried to avoid spoilers, but there are spoilers for Catfish, so if you haven't seen it and intend to watch it at any time, look away when you get to that section!
Veronica Mars
I can't put into words how excited I was about this film. If you follow me on twitter, however, you were probably driven mad by my constant tweeting in the lead up to the release - I could not contain myself. If you know me, you'll know that Veronica Mars is one of my all-time favourite television shows, Kristen Bell is one of my all-time favourite human beings and Logan and Veronica are one of my all-time favourite TV pairings... so it was safe to say this film had a lot to live up to. For me, it completely delivered. As a fan of the show, it was such a joy to revisit all those characters, seeing that phenomenal cast together again was amazing. Max Greenfield's scene was actually one of my favourites despite Leo not really being someone I was too bothered about catching up with before the film started. The script was fantastic, as always, so well done Rob Thomas - the famous Veronica Mars dialogue was absolutely on point. I'm not one to obsess over having everything tied up in a neat little package at the end of a show or film, but the ending of Veronica Mars was always one that bothered me - it was cancelled far too soon, so this film was a great opportunity to bring everyone back together and do things properly.
Frozen
I know, I know, I'm a couple of months behind but I've FINALLY seen Frozen! And, as expected, I absolutely loved it. I love that the main theme of this particular Disney offering was the bond between sisters, and families (with an obligatory bit of romance thrown in for good measure, of course!). I won't fangirl for too long since I just talked about Veronica Mars, but before I saw the film I didn't realise that Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) was pretty much the main character - from the posters and trailers I assumed Elsa (voiced by ''the wickedly talented Adele Dazeem'' a.k.a the lovely Idina Menzel) was the main focus of the film, but in actual fact she didn't get a whole lot of screen time. I thought Anna was a brilliant character though, not your typical Disney heroine but someone I think real girls might actually be able to relate to.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Finally, four years after it was released, I managed to watch Scott Pilgrim! Emma sat me down last night with a cup of tea, a variety of snacks and we managed successfully not to talk over the whole thing. I really, really enjoyed it. I'm a big Michael Cera fan anyway, but the whole game/graphic novel element of it isn't something I'd normally be particularly drawn to. However, I was instantly won over - visually I thought it was fantastic, the game style of it actually worked really, really well, and despite knowing very little about the storyline beforehand, it quickly grabbed my attention. Highlight - Mae Whitman. Always Mae Whitman. She's just brilliant. And for any Arrested Development fans, seeing those two on screen together again in very different roles was a lot of fun.
Arrested Development
SPEAKING OF, I've been rewatching a bit of Arrested Development so I can actually finish watching Season 4! I started it at the time it was released but was too busy to watch it all in one go (or at least an episode a day), so I fell behind and lost track of what was happening. For someone who is, and always was, as much of a fan of the show as I am, that is a shameful thing to admit. However, the plan is to actually finish it ASAP, so I've been watching a handful of old favourite episodes to put me in the mood to watch it.
Catfish
I've been referencing Catfish for years because despite never having watched the actual documentary before, I had known for a long time what it was about and how it turned out. Last weekend, however, I sat down to actually watch it and I really, really enjoyed it. It made me feel much sadder than I expected it to though - the whole thing towards the end was so very uncomfortable. It's unbelievable (and scary) what some people can do with the internet these days, creating an entire life for themselves that doesn't exist.
Sidenote - if you've seen Catfish, how RIDICULOUSLY hot is Nev? I almost couldn't concentrate on the documentary, I was too busy falling in love with him. I mentioned to Emma that I had watched it, and weirdly she had watched it a couple of days before. Apparently the minute she saw him she knew how I'd feel about him ;)
The Hunger Games - Catching Fire
I won't spend too much time discussing Catching Fire because I've mentioned it on here a million times before, but my DVD arrived on Monday and I was pleased as punch. I had had a long day at uni and I got home, had dinner and literally went to bed to watch my dvd. It was just as good as it was first time around. What I wouldn't give to have a Peeta in my life, I tell you.
