Happy 1st Birthday Munro's!

Monday, 24 February 2014

Evening all!

After a busy day at uni last Friday, I headed along to Munro's on Great Western Road in Glasgow to join in with their first birthday celebrations! Though I had never actually been before, over the past twelve months this has become quite the go-to place for a few of my friends to go for a drink in the West End.

I arrived a wee bit early, grabbed a celebratory glass of champagne and had a chat with a few of the bloggers I hadn't run into in a while, which was lovely. Not long after my pal Roisin arrived, followed closely by Morag, who I hadn't seen in ages. The three of us had a lovely wee night catching up on all the gossip... we live extremely exciting lives you know *says the girl about to fall asleep at 8.30 following a day of dissertation research ;)*

Of course no birthday celebration would be complete without some exciting food, and they really went all out! We devoured some amazing stuffed peppers and a ham, cheese and jalapeño pizza which was amazing!! Being the food addicts that we are, we then spent the next hour or so enjoying some wine and wondering if and when the birthday cake was going to arrive.

I can tell you that it was worth the wait.

So thank you so much to all at Munro's (and the team at Dada) for inviting us along! It was lovely to be part of your celebration, and here's to another fantastic year.

Valentine's Day - Top 5 TV Romances

Thursday, 13 February 2014

Once again Valentine's Day is fast approaching and I've sat for the past hour trying to think of a suitable post. I contemplated writing a ''what to do on Valentine's Day when you're single'' sort of thing, but there are lots of them out there already, and they all say much the same thing - either ''hang out with your single girl friends'' (which is my plan!), ''watch a romantic film'' (really?!), or, one which I've found a little puzzling ''Go on a mate date with one of your guy friends'' (maybe it's just me but wouldn't that just be a combination of confusing and depressing when you're surrounded by actual couples? Let me know if you've done this before and it worked and maybe, if I'm on my lonesome this time next year, I'll drag one of my guy pals out for dinner!).

Last year I did the Celebrity Crush Tag as a video/post for Valentine's Day week and it seemed to go down pretty well! So, this year, I thought I would do another list type post (love me a ''top 5'' so I do), and fill you in on some of my favourite TV romances of all time. I have similar posts for my top 5 TV friendships and Top 5 Romcoms, if you're interested :)

BEWARE OF THE SPOILERS! (contains spoilers for Lost, Veronica Mars, 24, Gilmore Girls and Friends)

Desmond and Penny (Lost)

source

Desmond and Penny may well be my favourite couple ever. For any Lost fans, you'll know the trials and tribulations these two go through to find their way back to each other and they are just lovely. While I couldn't help but get invested in the Jack-Kate-Sawyer-Juliet quadrangle, Desmond and Penny were far simpler and I was rooting for them the whole way through. The scene I've linked above (click on their names to go to the YouTube link) when they finally manage to contact each other is one of my all time favourites!

Logan and Veronica (Veronica Mars)

source

Kristen Bell and Jason Dohring have an INSANE amount of chemistry, so it was little wonder the writers decided to make the most of it and change the direction Logan's character took. I am a huge Veronica and Logan fan, and was from the moment I started watching the show. I know, I know, Piz was lovely and it was all a lot simpler, but I so, so badly wanted them to end up together. That spark and banter between them was just consistently amazing... I really can't wait for the film.

Tony and Michelle (24)

source

Aww I loved Tony and Michelle so much, I really did. I think one of the interesting things about 24 (one of the many, many interesting things!) is how the show handles this sort of situation - if a series starts with two people dating that's fine, but a blossoming relationship is more difficult to deal with since the entire season takes place over the course of one day! But I thought they handled this relationship in season 2 brilliantly. The chemistry between the actors was amazing, and in the following seasons I loved how the dynamic in their relationship constantly shifted.

Lorelai and Luke (Gilmore Girls)

source

For any Gilmore fans, the Lorelai-Luke relationship was always on the cards, and I really loved them together. To be fair, I also really loved Lorelai's relationship with Max (I think I actually wanted to marry Max, I was gutted when they split up to begin with!) but the bond between her and Luke was too obvious to ignore. There are so many scenes between these two that I love, but the one linked above (the infamous first kiss) is always a favourite. I had to include this one too though, because no matter how many times I watch it, it never fails to make me laugh!

Monica and Chandler (Friends)

source

Ross and Rachel always seem to be the first couple people talk about when it comes to Friends, but I was much more of a Monica and Chandler fan. All of their big moments, from when they get together, to the proposal, the wedding, the struggle to get pregnant and then becoming parents are some of my favourite episodes of Friends, and that is saying something! Chandler was definitely my favourite character, and I just loved seeing how their relationship developed over the years - the beauty of a long running tv show!

So that's it for my top 5 favourite TV couples, just in time for Valentine's Day! If you have a date for the occasion I hope you have a lovely time, or if, like me, you're going to have a glass of wine and a laugh with your other single pals I'm sure you'll have just as good a night!! And you never know who you might meet ;)

Thanks so much for reading guys!

Rainbow Rooms International - Glasgow Event

Sunday, 9 February 2014

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited along to the Rainbow Rooms International salon in Royal Exchange Square Glasgow, for a night of pampering and catch ups with some of my favourite Scottish bloggers! Since I love any excuse for a chat and a bit of hair and skincare advice, it was an event I was really looking forward to!

Getting my hair done | Glass of fizz on arrival | Ayden having her nails done

Upon our arrival we were met with a nice wee glass of fizz or fruit juice, and left to have a wander around, with nails and skincare going on downstairs and hair happening upstairs. Before we arrived, I thought it was going to be a case of a couple of the girls acting as models while the stylists talked us through a couple of trends, or 'how-to' popular hairstyles. Heading upstairs with Laura, however, we were greeted by a troop of friendly stylists and whisked off to have whichever hairstyle we fancied done by the pros! I went for some GHD curls and lots of volume on the top, pinned into place, while the other girls opted for a variety of styles from vintage curls to plaited up dos.

During and after shots of Laura and Gillian!

There was a real buzz in the room as everyone caught up over and drink and admired each others new look! After a while we headed back downstairs, where a couple of the girls had their nails done, and Roisin and Gill left with baby-soft skin following a wee Dermalogica facial treatment, tailored to their individual skin needs.

Laura having her nails done | Gillian's gorgeous up-do | Catch ups with the girls

So thanks so much to the guys at Rainbow Rooms for inviting us along - we had a lovely evening and I loved sitting back getting pampered after a busy day at uni and work! If you're new to Glasgow and looking for some hair, nails or skincare advice pop along to Royal Exchange Square!

Thanks for reading, hope you are all well! :)

Soundtrack to my Week #1

Wednesday, 5 February 2014

Hi all! Thought I'd do a quick post and share the songs I've been obsessing over (and that is always the word that comes to mind when it comes to me and music!) this week!

Birdy - Wings

I heard this on the trailer for A New York Winter's Tale and instantly loved it.

The Naked and Famous - Spank

An oldie but a goody. I don't think I'll ever get bored of this song.

Shakira - Can't Remember to Forget You (feat. Rihanna)

My girl crush on Shakira is well and truly re-established. This song is also ridiculously catchy and a definite mood lifter when it's still dark and I'm sitting on the bus on my way to uni!

Macy Kate - Team (Lorde cover)

Loving this cover, I really like Macy Kate (and anything that Kurt Schneider has had anything to do with).

Embrace - Refugees

I heard this one on the radio in work today and loved it - so this is a last minute entry ;)

What music have you had on repeat this week?

Thanks for reading! :)

My Latest Photo App Obsession

Sunday, 2 February 2014

This week I discovered a new photo app which I have fallen just a tiny bit in love with!

It's called Dubble (or @dubbleapp on instagram and twitter), and the concept is simple but effective. You upload an image much like instagram, and it is added to their photo database - within a few moments an amazing mashup of your own photo and a photo taken by someone else, possibly at the other side of the world, appears in your folder. It's very, very cool, and from scrolling through their instagram, has produced some stunning pictures!

Obviously not every single one of them will turn out looking perfect, but I thought I'd show you a couple of the ones involving my photos that I've particularly liked!

So if, like me, you can't get enough of a good photo editing app, I'd definitely recommend checking this one out!

If you've found a cool new photo app recently let me know in the comments - I love trying out new ones :)
